RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Prosecutors say they are planning a major announcement in their investigation of the suspected serial murders of a group of women whose bodies were found strewn along a coastal highway near Long Island's Gilgo Beach. The prime suspect in some of those killings, Rex Heuermann, is due in court Tuesday, months after he was charged in the deaths of three women. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney is set to make the announcement after a court hearing in the case in Riverhead, New York. Heuermann was charged in July with the killings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello, whose bodies were found buried along a remote beach parkway. Prosecutors said Heuermann is also suspected in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who vanished in 2007.

CNN —An investigation into more than 115 bodies found “improperly stored” in a Colorado funeral home offering “green burials” could take months, officials say. The remains were found in the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, about 30 miles south of Colorado Springs. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are assisting the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. The coroner’s office was contacted by the Fremont County sheriff on a report of an odor coming from the funeral home, Keller said. CNN has reached out to the Return to Nature Funeral Home for comment.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Police on Saturday reported two more confirmed sightings of an escaped murderer on the run for more than a week in southeast Pennsylvania amid a search by hundreds of law enforcement officers. Danelo Souza Cavalcante, 34, escaped from the Chester County Prison while awaiting transfer to state prison on Aug. 31 after being sentenced to life for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in 2021. Prosecutors say he wanted to stop her from telling police that he’s wanted in a killing in his home country of Brazil. Authorities believe Cavalcante, spotted almost a dozen times since his escape, has managed to obtain clothing and other supplies. There’s now a $20,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Cavalcante, whose escape has attracted international attention and became big news in Brazil.

CNN —As thousands of people remain unable to leave the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert after heavy rains inundated their campsites with ankle-deep mud Saturday, authorities say they are investigating a death at the event. Vehicles trying to drive out will get stuck in the mud, Burning Man organizers said Saturday. CNN —A concertgoer has filed a report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) after being “struck by an item that was thrown from the stage,” police said in a statement to CNN Monday. Police did not mention Cardi B in their statement, but the address on the incident report matches the location where she was performing on Saturday. “According to the victim, she was attending an event on July 29, 2023, at a property located in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard. In another video shared to social media from the concert, Cardi B and her DJ are seen asking the crowd to “splash” her with water due to the heat. CNN —Police say they have arrested a “popular” Tennessee soccer coach after finding videos on his cell phone depicting unconscious boys being raped. Police say they were alerted after Campos left his phone at a restaurant and employees went through the device, looking for information about the owner so they could return it. “What they found, instead, were dozens of unconscionable videos and pictures of children, and so they called police,” authorities said in the news release. Authorities investigated and found hundreds of disturbing images and videos on the 63-year-old’s phone, according to the release. Detectives say the victims may not even know they were raped due to being in an unconscious state.

The discovery led the US Coast Guard to announce the ship likely imploded, killing all five passengers aboard. The Odysseus 6 discovered debris from the Titan submersible about 1,600 feet from the wreckage of the Titanic on Thursday, according to the US Coast Guard. Paris CNN —Six people remain in a critical condition and one person is missing after a gas explosion in central Paris on Wednesday, the Paris prosecutor’s office told CNN on Thursday. Francois Braun, France’s health minister, told CNN affiliate BFMTV Thursday that some of those injured are suffering from “extremely significant burns,” while others have suffered “significant traumatic injuries” due to the blast. Laure Beccuau, the Paris prosecutor said that early signs indicate that the gas explosion came from within the building that houses the Paris American Academy, according BFMTV. Paris American Academy, a fashion and design school, describes itself on its website as the “first bilingual design school” in the French capitalKent State University, in the US state of Ohio, said all its students at the Paris American Academy are safe and accounted following the blast. Another woman who didn’t want to give her name and lives in a neighboring avenue told CNN that her doors slammed shut from the explosion.

Then-employee Jorge Diaz Vega, 26, allegedly told authorities in an interview that he had “been taking videos up the dresses/skirts of unknown females in the Disney World theme parks for approximately six years,” according to the affidavit. Diaz Vega, who worked at the lightsaber store, told authorities he had what he estimated to be over 500 such videos on his phone and showed “multiple examples of the videos” to detectives, according to the affidavit. “The videos were of multiple females who all appeared to not know they were being video recorded,” the affidavit states. She “was not aware at the time the incident took place, and she was not told of the identity of the male,” authorities say in the affidavit. CNN has attempted to reach Diaz Vega directly for comment.
Dozens of people were injured after tensions flared again on Friday night as police clashed with protesters in anti-government demonstrations that are spreading across Peru. In the country’s southern Puno region, some 1,500 protesters attacked a police station in the town of Ilave, Interior Minister Vicente Romero said in a statement to news media. By late afternoon, 58 people had been injured nationwide in demonstrations, according to a report from Peru’s ombudsman. In the Cusco region, Glencore’s major Antapaccay copper mine suspended operations on Friday after protesters attacked the premises — one of the largest in the country — for the third time this month. “All the rigor of the law will fall on those people who have acted with vandalism,” Boluarte said on Thursday.

Romanian authorities arrested him, his brother and two women on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organized crime group, according to Reuters. The webcam business that Tate ran and openly spoke about is central to these charges, according to Romanian Authorities. Some of the allegations by Romanian authorities echo what Andrew Tate has said publicly about his webcam business. Earlier this month, Vice reported that Tate was arrested in 2015 in the U.K. on suspicion of sexual assault and physical abuse, citing statements from U.K. authorities and Tate himself.

A grand jury indicted a former New Jersey landlord last week on more than three dozen sex charges accusing him of soliciting sex from tenants who were facing eviction or struggling financially, authorities announced Wednesday. Centanni, the former owner of hundreds of rental units across 18 residential properties, “targeted tenants or prospective tenants who were homeless, about to be evicted, or otherwise struggling financially,” authorities said. The lawsuit alleged Centanni had sexually harassed susceptible tenants for more than 15 years. Centanni sold all of his properties as part of the settlement, the statement said. Under the terms of the proposed consent decree, Centanni would pay $4,392,950 in damages to tenants and prospective tenants “harmed by his harassment,” authorities said.
Four people who were found dead at a marijuana farm in Oklahoma over the weekend were “executed,” authorities said Tuesday. The victims included three men and one woman, the agency said in a statement. Law enforcement investigate a quadruple murder and one injured following a reported hostage situation northwest of Oklahoma City on Monday. KFORA fifth Chinese national was injured in the incident, which occurred Sunday in a rural area northwest of Oklahoma City, the agency said. While the status of the grow operation where the quadruple homicide occurred remains unclear, law enforcement officials have reported a rise in black market operators using suspected human trafficking victims, including Chinese nationals, to grow and trim marijuana sold in legal dispensaries.
Shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, the Raleigh Police Department said that officers were responding to the scene of an "active shooting" in an area northeast of downtown. An off-duty officer was killed as police are responding to an active shooting situation in an east Raleigh, N.C., neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. A witness told the station that he saw an apparent gunman who was armed with a long-barrel shotgun and dressed in camouflage. "I saw him basically pass by my house in the backyard," the witness, identified only as Robert, told the station. Another witness who saw the apparent gunman told the station that he was wearing black boots and appeared to be a teenager.
